Special Cutting Tools manufactures conventional honing tools for vertical honing machines in low, medium, and high volume applications. Our engineering staff works diligently to lower cost per piece using the latest 3D drawing software. Our tools are designed to fit our own machines, as well as machines manufactured by our competitors. We believe that our designs, materials used, and processes have resulted in one of the most robust and precise tools on the market; each one of our cylinder hone tools is designed with great diligence for your specific application. We work with our customers to ensure the proper choice in tool design and honing abrasive. Tool regrinding and reconditioning

Special Cutting Tools offers complete tool regrinding services. Tool regrinding lowers costs by providing quick turnaround times and eliminating the break-in period normally experienced with new honing stones. Your current operations may be wasting valuable money and time by consuming more abrasives than you actually need. Many times we are able to salvage existing abrasives for one or even two more cycles. If your tool does require new abrasives, we will be happy to assist you in choosing the proper abrasive. We are able to regrind our own honing tools, as well as those of competitors.

Fixturing

We are experts in the design and build of gymbal type fixtures for proper orientation of the workpiece. Fixtures are often an overlooked component of the boring honing system; a properly functioning fixture is crucial to maintaining quality and consistency. Our fixtures are meticulously designed and go through rigorous testing and quality checks to ensure your honing machine functions properly. In addition to our custom fixtures, we offer complete rebuild / retrofit services for your existing fixtures.

Commitment to Quality

We work diligently to ensure that every honing tool is crafted to the highest standards in order to exceed our customer's requirements. During tool and fixture manufacturing as well as tool rebuilding, our operators are required to inspect every tool as it is prepared.  In addition to operator inspections, our Quality Control Manager randomly inspects critical specifications as the tools are run throughout the floor.  The last step of our process is a final independent inspection by our Quality Control Manager before the tool is sent to the customer.  We are able to inspect critical specifications to within 0.0001" using our calibrated gauging inspection process.
